DODGE CITY -
A Dodge City woman was injured Wednesday afternoon when her car struck a house at 1205 Central Ave.

Maymun Yusuf, 22, told police that she was backing out of the driveway at 1203 Central Ave. and had put the car in "drive" when the gas pedal got stuck, causing the car to veer into the yard next door and strike the house, said Police Chief John Ball.

Ball said that both Yusuf and her passenger, 20-year-old Dodge City resident Leyla Ahmed, were wearing seat belts when the accident occurred.

Yusuf was taken to Western Plains Medical Complex for treatment, but Ahmed was not hurt.

The accident damaged the car, a 2008 Nissan Sentra, as well as the front door and porch of the house at 1205 Central Ave.

Yusuf was cited for driving without insurance and inattentive driving, Ball said.

Linda Castleman, who lives at 1205 Central with her husband, Kirk, said neither of them were at home when the accident occurred. She said that the car damaged the front door, the door frame and the porch but did not strike anything inside the house.
